A couple question about FM broadcast radio stations & 'play lists'.

I have noticed that several stations in my area seem to be playing the
same, or very similar, 'play list'; often simultaneous, sometimes with
a time offset or shuffled. (this includes old songs from the 70's and
80's as well as current singles)

Are FM radio stations getting some type of 'feed' similar to TV
network affiliates that get programming from the networks?

What or who determines which songs and singers get on these play
lists?

It's usually not anybody who works at the radio station anymore who
gets to decide what songs get played on the radio, that's for sure.
Whoever it is, there is definitely some sort of a tie in between TV
and radio programming. The day after the last episode of The Sopranos
and for about a week after, there was no fucking relief from that damn
Journey song that was playing at the end.
